Evidence it uses the CCAT
Strong evidence
PowerSchool candidates on Glassdoor report an emailed CCAT link with a deadline of a few days, taken before interviews with hiring managers, and some also report the UCAT. PowerSchool does not publish a score.
The highest Criteria suggested floor among the reported roles is 22 (Analyst, for financial analysts). We add 5 to 8 for a typical software employer, which gives 27 to 30, and extend the low end to 24 for sales and consulting roles, which have lower floors and a smaller margin.

Use the deadline, do not race it
PowerSchool makes software for K-12 schools and districts, including student information systems. Candidates report that its CCAT arrives as an emailed link with a few days to complete it.
A few days is enough time to get familiar with the format, not to transform your score. Spend the first day on one timed 50-question practice set to see where you lose time, the next on the two or three question types that cost you most, and take the test itself on the last comfortable day, rested and on a laptop. Do not leave it to the final hour before the link expires.
Day 1: one full timed practice set, then look at which types slowed you down.
Day 2: drill those types, with a time limit per question.
Day 3: take the test early in the day, before the deadline.
The CCAT and the UCAT
Some PowerSchool candidates report the UCAT as well as, or instead of, the CCAT. Both come from Criteria. The UCAT is its Universal Cognitive Aptitude Test, designed to depend less on language, so it leans on number, pattern and spatial problems.
If your invite names the UCAT, spend more time on number and picture patterns and less on vocabulary. If it names the CCAT, keep a balance across math, verbal, logic and spatial items. Check the invite before you plan your days.
Consultants and analysts: averages and tables
Associate consultants and financial analysts at an education software company spend their days with enrollment counts, budgets and averages. The CCAT's math section asks for the same kind of quick reasoning: what number changes an average, which row of a table answers the question.
The fastest route on averages is to turn the mean into a total. If the average of 5 numbers is 12, they add to 60. If a sixth number makes the average 15, the new total is 90, so the number added is 30.
Where the CCAT sits in PowerSchool's hiring process
1
Application and early contact
Candidates typically hear from a recruiter or receive an email after applying.
2
Emailed CCAT link
Candidates report a CCAT link by email with a few days to finish it. The test itself is still 50 questions in 15 minutes.
3
UCAT (sometimes)
Some candidates also report the UCAT, Criteria's Universal Cognitive Aptitude Test.
4
Hiring manager interviews
Candidates report interviews with managers after the assessment.
Steps are as candidates describe them. Processes change by role and over time.
Tips for the PowerSchool CCAT
Check whether the invite names the CCAT or the UCAT before you plan your practice.
Spend the deadline on one timed practice set and two targeted drill days, then take the test rested.
Do not leave the link to the last hour. Technical problems happen, and the deadline will not move.
On averages, turn the mean into a total first. It makes most of these one-step problems.
On tables, read the question first and look only at the row and column it needs.
These are our own practice questions, written in the CCAT's formats. PowerSchool does not publish its test questions, and neither does Criteria. For a full timed run, take the free CCAT practice test.

How we estimate
PowerSchool does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.
Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the CCAT percentile chart for the method and what a good CCAT score is for the published job-family floors.
