Datto is part of Kaseya now: what that means for the test

Datto builds backup, networking and management software sold to managed service providers. Kaseya acquired it, and hiring now runs inside a larger company with its own processes.

Our only evidence is a single 2021 candidate report. Acquisitions often change hiring steps, so a CCAT invite from a Datto or Kaseya recruiter is possible but not something to assume. If your recruiter mentions a cognitive or aptitude test, ask which one. If it is 50 questions in 15 minutes from Criteria, it is the CCAT and everything on this page applies.

Why a CCAT after the coding test changes your preparation

Most employers put the CCAT at the front of the funnel to cut volume. In the Datto report it came after the technical interview and the coding test. That order matters: by the time you see the link, you have already shown you can code, so the aptitude score becomes a comparison between finalists rather than a gate for hundreds of applicants.

That makes the late test less forgiving of a bad day. You cannot lean on a strong coding round to cover a rushed CCAT if another finalist scored higher. Take a timed practice test before the coding round, not after, so a weak domain shows up while you still have days to fix it.

• Schedule your practice test as soon as the process starts, not when the CCAT link arrives.
• Expect a few days between the coding test and the CCAT link; use them for drills, not new full tests every hour.
• Ask the recruiter how long the link stays open so you can plan a quiet 15 minutes.

What engineers tend to lose on the CCAT

Engineers usually do well on number series and pattern matrices, then lose time on verbal items they did not expect: analogies, synonyms and sentence completion. The trap is spending 90 seconds proving a sequence rule when the CCAT averages 18 seconds per question.

Use your strength as a time bank. Answer series and matrices fast, guess on any verbal item you cannot place within about 20 seconds, and move on. A blank answer and a wrong answer score the same, so never leave the last questions empty.

Tips for the Datto (Kaseya) CCAT

• Take one timed full test before the coding round, so your weakest domain is known before the CCAT link arrives.
• On number series, test differences first, then ratios, then alternating patterns; stop at the first rule that fits two steps.
• Set a personal 25-second skip rule for verbal items and stick to it for the whole test.
• If a Kaseya recruiter sends an assessment link, check the email for Criteria or ondemandassessment.com to confirm it is the CCAT.
• Answer every question before time runs out; there is no published penalty for a wrong answer.

How we estimate

Datto (Kaseya) does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.
