Cvent's CCAT comes after the coding: what software engineers report

Software engineering candidates report that Cvent gives the CCAT after its technical tests and before the HR or final round. Cvent publishes no cutoff, so our estimate is 25 to 31 out of 50, with 28 as a target. Coming late in the process, it can feel like an afterthought, which is exactly why it catches strong engineers out.

Some evidence

Software engineering candidates on Glassdoor report the CCAT after Cvent's technical tests and before the HR or final round. Cvent does not publish the test or a score.

Criteria's suggested floor for Software Development is 20, or 22 for Engineering. We add 5 to 8 for a typical tech employer, which gives 25 to 30, and allow one more point for senior engineering roles.

The numbers below use our estimate for Cvent: a range of 25 to 31 out of 50 with a target of 28. Nothing is saved. If you ask Clever below, it sees your numbers.

24

Below the estimate

A 24 is about the 49th to 50th percentile of Criteria's published reference groups (our estimate). 4 more correct answers would reach our estimated target of 28.

Where the CCAT sits in Cvent's hiring process

  1. Technical tests

Candidates report coding or technical assessments first.

  2. CCAT

Then the CCAT: 50 questions in 15 minutes, typically an online link.

  3. HR and final round

Candidates report HR and final interviews after the CCAT.

Steps are as candidates describe them. Processes change by role and over time.

A late-stage CCAT changes the stakes

Cvent makes event management and hospitality software used to run conferences, meetings and venue bookings. For software engineers, candidates report the CCAT after the technical tests rather than at the start, so by the time the link arrives you have already invested hours in the process.

That flips the usual advice. Early screens can feel low risk because you have not put much in yet. A late CCAT guards the HR and final rounds, and missing it wastes everything before it. Give it the same preparation you gave the coding round.

From code to a 15-minute sprint

Coding assessments reward careful, complete work: read the problem, think, test, refine. The CCAT rewards the opposite habit. You have about 18 seconds per question, most people do not finish, and a perfect answer that took two minutes is worth the same single point as a quick one.

Practice the switch on purpose. Do a few full 50-question sets under a strict 15-minute clock, and notice when you start solving a question properly instead of eliminating answers and moving on.

Ordering and sequence questions

Engineers do well on pattern and logic items, but ordering puzzles (five people, a few before-and-after clues) can turn into a slow mental sort. Sketch a line on paper if you are allowed it, place the most constrained person first, and check each option against the clues instead of building the full order.

  • Shape and tile sequences: name the one thing that changes each step.
  • Ordering puzzles: test the options, do not solve from scratch.
  • Verbal items: set a 20-second limit and guess when it runs out.

After the CCAT: the HR and final round

Candidates report the HR and final round after the CCAT. You may not be shown a score, so you will often learn how you did only by whether the next invite arrives.

Use the wait well. Prepare for the HR conversation (why Cvent, why this team, what you built in the technical round) rather than replaying CCAT questions you were unsure about. One test, taken once, rarely decides the whole process on its own.

Practice questions in the same formats

These are our own practice questions, written in the CCAT's formats. Cvent does not publish its test questions, and neither does Criteria. For a full timed run, take the free CCAT practice test.

Question 1Visual sequencesMedium

Which tile comes next in the sequence?

5
Show the answer and the fast route

Answer: B

Each step rotates 90° clockwise and swaps filled and empty cells. Apply both changes, not just one.

The fast route

Track one changing feature at a time; check alternating positions.

Question 2Ordering & rankingMedium

Five runners finished with no ties. Omar finished before Nora. Dara finished before Zoe. Leon finished before Dara. Nora finished before Leon. Who finished last?

  1. Dara
  2. Nora
  3. Omar
  4. Zoe
  5. Leon
Show the answer and the fast route

Answer: D, Zoe

The order from first to last is Omar → Nora → Leon → Dara → Zoe. Zoe finished last.

The fast route

Build a short chain. For rank from both ends, add the ranks and subtract one.

Tips for the Cvent CCAT

  • Prepare for the CCAT as seriously as the coding round. It sits right before the final interviews.
  • Switch from careful-coder mode to sprint mode: about 18 seconds per question.
  • On ordering puzzles, test each answer option against the clues instead of solving the whole order.
  • On shape sequences, name what changes each step (rotation, count, shading) before you look at the options.
  • Guess before time runs out on anything you skipped. Only correct answers count.

How we estimate

Cvent does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.

Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the CCAT percentile chart for the method and what a good CCAT score is for the published job-family floors.

Questions, answered

Does Cvent use the CCAT?

Software engineering candidates on Glassdoor report a CCAT after Cvent's technical tests. Cvent does not publish its process, so treat it as reported.

What CCAT score do you need at Cvent?

Cvent does not publish a cutoff. Our estimate is 25 to 31 out of 50, with 28 as a target, based on Criteria's floor for software roles plus a typical tech margin.

When is the CCAT in Cvent's software engineer process?

Candidates report it after the technical tests and before the HR or final round.

Is the Cvent CCAT harder than the coding test?

It is different. The coding test rewards careful, complete answers, while the CCAT rewards speed across 50 short questions in 15 minutes.

Can I use a calculator on the Cvent CCAT?

The CCAT is designed to be taken without a calculator, so practice mental math with friendly numbers.
