Where the CCAT sits in CentralSquare Technologies's hiring process

  1. Application

Typical; not described in the reports.

  2. Pre-interview CCAT

  3. Technical interview

The public-sector software developer path

CentralSquare Technologies builds software for cities, counties, public safety agencies and other public-sector organizations. Developer work there often means records, dispatch and finance systems where details matter and errors are costly.

The CCAT does not test any of that domain knowledge. It is a general reasoning test given before the interview, so a strong portfolio does not reach a hiring manager until the score clears whatever bar the team uses.

Detail-matching and deduction: two quick sources of points

Two CCAT question types fit a developer who works on records systems. Exact-match items show five pairs of strings, codes or addresses and ask how many pairs are identical. They are pure attention: compare character by character, and watch for swapped digits and a single changed letter.

Deductive statements give two premises and a conclusion. All bakers are teachers; no teachers are editors; so are any bakers editors? Treat each premise as a rule and follow it once, without bringing in outside assumptions.

  • Exact match: scan in chunks of three or four characters, not whole strings.
  • Deduction: draw two quick circles in your head and place the groups.
  • Both: answer within 20 seconds or guess and move on.

Why a pre-interview test needs a plan

When the test comes before any conversation, no one can vouch for you if the score falls short. Take a timed practice test as soon as you apply, find the two question types that cost you the most, and drill those before you open the link.

If the link arrives with a deadline, use the time. A few days of targeted drills is a better use of the window than taking the test the same evening.

Checking your practice score against the estimate

Use the score check on this page with a score from a timed, 15-minute practice test. Untimed scores run high and will make you feel safer than you are.

If you land below 25, look at where the misses came from. Developers often find that number series and deduction are already strong, and that the gap sits in verbal items and tables. Two days of focused drills on those usually moves a score more than another full test does. If you are already at 27 or above, keep one more timed test on the calendar the day before you open the link, so the pace is fresh.

Question 1Exact matchingEasier

How many of the five items in the left column are exactly the same as the corresponding item in the right column?

Answer: C, 2

Two pairs match: Parkside Tennis Club and Drummond & Klein. The others differ: "Solutions" vs "Solution", "Shelter" vs "Rescue", and "Tours" vs "Travel".

The fast route

Scan the final word of every item first, then the rest.

Question 2Deductive statementsEasier

Assume the first two statements are true. All bakers are teachers. No teachers are editors. Conclusion: No bakers are editors. Is the conclusion True, False, or Uncertain?

  1. True
  2. False
  3. Uncertain
Show the answer and the fast route

Answer: A, True

The first group is inside the second, and the second never overlaps the third. The first and third therefore cannot overlap. No extra facts about these groups may be assumed.

The fast route

Do not reverse all-statements or invent an overlap that was never given.

Tips for the CentralSquare Technologies CCAT

  • Take a timed practice test the day you apply, since the CCAT comes before any interview.
  • On exact-match items, compare three or four characters at a time and watch for swapped digits.
  • In deduction, use only the two statements given, even when the conclusion sounds true from everyday experience.
  • Use the full window on the link; drill your two weakest types before you start the test.
  • If you also apply for a public-sector role elsewhere, expect different tests; confirm which one each employer uses.

How we estimate

CentralSquare Technologies does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.

Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the CCAT percentile chart for the method and what a good CCAT score is for the published job-family floors.
