# TIBCO's reported CCAT: sales and technical candidates compared

By [Avi Flombaum](https://avi.nyc) · Updated October 13, 2026

A prep-site list reports that TIBCO uses the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) for sales and technical hires, but the evidence is thin and we could not confirm it with the employer. If you do get a CCAT invite, we estimate 22 to 25 out of 50 is competitive for sales roles and 26 to 29 for technical ones. Ask your recruiter which assessment you will take.

## TIBCO and the CCAT at a glance

Estimated target score

27 /50

An estimate, not a published cutoff.

**Our estimated range**

**Target percentile (estimate)**

**Criteria floors for these roles**

**Evidence it uses the CCAT**

Thin evidence

A prep site's list of CCAT employers (PrepCCAT) names TIBCO for sales and technical roles. We found no candidate reports or employer statement confirming it.

Our estimate, not TIBCO's cutoff. The highest Criteria suggested floor among the reported role types is 21 (IT and Computing Systems, for technical and solutions roles). We add 5 to 8 points for a typical software employer. Sales roles get a lower estimate, shown in the role table.

## Roles at TIBCO reported to include the CCAT

Criteria floors are from Criteria's sample score report. Our estimates are not published cutoffs.

| Role | Criteria job family and floor | Our estimate | Note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Sales development representative | Sales Representative: 17 | 20 to 23 | Entry sales roles carry the lowest Criteria floor. We add 3 to 6 points for a sales-heavy hire. |
| Account executive | Sales / Account Executive: 19 | 22 to 25 | Quota-carrying sales roles. Verbal speed matters as much as math. |
| Solutions or sales engineer | IT and Computing Systems: 21 | 26 to 29 | Technical pre-sales roles sit between sales and engineering; we use the technical margin. |
| Software engineer | Software Development: 20 | 25 to 28 | Technical roles as reported. Expect a coding assessment as well. |

## Compare roles at TIBCO

The numbers below use our estimate for TIBCO: a range of 26 to 29 out of 50 with a target of 27. Nothing is saved. If you ask Clever below, it sees your numbers.

Criteria floor (Sales Representative) 17

Our estimate at TIBCO 20 to 23

Criteria's median, all test takers 24

Entry sales roles carry the lowest Criteria floor. We add 3 to 6 points for a sales-heavy hire.

## About TIBCO

TIBCO builds software that connects business systems and analyzes their data, and it is now part of Cloud Software Group.

TIBCO was a Vista Equity Partners portfolio company before that merger, which is likely why prep sites include it in lists of Vista companies that use Criteria tests. Our Vista Equity Partners page covers those reports in one place.

## Same test, different bar

Every candidate takes the same 50 questions, but employers set the passing score by role. Criteria's own suggested floors show the spread: 17 for Sales Representative, 19 for Sales / Account Executive, 20 for Software Development, 21 for IT and Computing Systems. Our estimates add a margin to each.

So a sales candidate and an engineer can score the same 25 and get different outcomes. For a sales role, 25 is likely comfortable. For a solutions engineer, it may sit just under the range we estimate. Use the role comparison above to see your own role's floor and estimate side by side.

## How sales and technical candidates should prepare differently

Sales candidates often do well on verbal items and lose points on math and spatial puzzles. The fix is not to become fast at everything: it is to make the easy math automatic and to learn when to skip a tile puzzle.

Technical candidates have the opposite profile. They clear the math and logic quickly, then stall on vocabulary. Ten minutes a day of synonyms and analogies does more for an engineer's score than another round of number sequences.

- Sales: drill arithmetic and percentages until they take under 20 seconds each.
- Technical: drill synonyms, antonyms and sentence completion.
- Both: practice skipping. A skipped question costs nothing; a stuck minute costs three answers.

## Where the CCAT sits in TIBCO's hiring process

1. ### Application and recruiter screen

No public reports describe TIBCO's sequence. A recruiter call usually comes first or right after the test.
2. ### Emailed assessment link

In a typical Criteria flow, you receive a link to an unproctored online test on Criteria's platform, due within a few days.
3. ### CCAT, often with a personality test

50 questions in 15 minutes, no calculator. Sales roles may also get a Criteria personality or sales questionnaire.
4. ### Role interviews

Sales candidates usually face a mock call or pitch; technical candidates a coding or architecture conversation.

Steps are as candidates describe them. Processes change by role and over time.

## Tips for the TIBCO CCAT

- Find your role in the comparison table and practice toward that estimate, not someone else's.
- If you are in sales, take one practice test and count how many math items you skipped. That is your first target.
- If you are technical, keep a list of words you missed on verbal items and review it before the test.
- On if-then items, the trap is reversing the rule. If A then B does not mean if B then A.
- Ask the recruiter whether the invite includes a separate sales or personality questionnaire, so its length does not surprise you.

## Question types to drill first

- [**Synonyms** The quickest verbal win for technical candidates, and a speed check for sales candidates. Verbal questions with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-verbal-questions)
- [**If-then logic** Solutions roles reason about rules and exceptions. These items test exactly that. Syllogisms with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-syllogisms)
- [**Mental arithmetic** Sales candidates who make basic math automatic free up time for everything else. Math questions with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-math-questions)

## Practice questions in the same formats

These are our own practice questions, written in the CCAT's formats. TIBCO does not publish its test questions, and neither does Criteria. For a full timed run, take the [free CCAT practice test](https://clevercatprep.com/free-ccat-practice-test).

Question 1 Synonyms Medium

Which choice is CLOSEST in meaning to ADVERSARY?

- A. opponent
- B. advisor
- C. critic
- D. stranger
- E. rival's ally

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: A, opponent**

In this sense, adversary means opponent. A critic may disagree but is not necessarily someone you contend against. The other choices do not express the same meaning.

The fast route

Create your own definition before looking at the choices.

Question 2 If–then reasoning Medium

In Rina’s system, the following rule always holds: If a member is eligible, then their account is verified. For the item in question, their account is verified. Conclusion: it is NOT the case that a member is eligible. Is the conclusion True, False, or Uncertain?

- A. True
- B. False
- C. Uncertain

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: C, Uncertain**

The consequence might occur for other reasons. Reversing an if–then statement is not a valid deduction. Negating an undetermined conclusion leaves it undetermined.

The fast route

If A implies B, not B implies not A. B alone does not prove A.

## How we estimate

TIBCO does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.

Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the [CCAT percentile chart](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-percentiles) for the method and [what a good CCAT score is](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-score) for the published job-family floors.

## Questions, answered

**Does TIBCO really use the CCAT?**

One prep-site list says so for sales and technical roles. We found no candidate reports or employer statement confirming it, so treat it as unverified and ask your recruiter which assessment you will take.

**Is the CCAT the same for sales and engineering?**

The test is the same. The score an employer looks for usually differs by role, which is why our estimates differ too.

**What score should a TIBCO sales candidate aim for?**

We estimate 22 to 25 out of 50 for account executives, from Criteria's floor of 19 plus a margin. TIBCO publishes no number.

**What score should a technical candidate aim for?**

We estimate 25 to 29 depending on the role, from Criteria's floors of 20 and 21 plus a margin. It is an estimate, not a cutoff.

**Is TIBCO still part of Vista Equity Partners?**

TIBCO is now part of Cloud Software Group. Reports of Vista portfolio testing may reflect its earlier ownership.
