# EAB's reported CCAT for interns and analysts

By [Avi Flombaum](https://avi.nyc) · Updated October 13, 2026

Prep sites report that EAB uses the Criteria Cognitive Aptitude Test (CCAT) for summer interns, analysts and consultants, but we could not confirm it with the employer. Analyst and intern programs tend to be competitive, so we estimate 30 to 34 out of 50 as a competitive range. Ask your recruiter which assessment you will take.

## EAB and the CCAT at a glance

Estimated target score

32 /50

An estimate, not a published cutoff.

**Our estimated range**

30 to 34

**Target percentile (estimate)**

the 82nd to 87th

**Criteria floors for these roles**

20, 22

**Evidence it uses the CCAT**

Thin evidence

A prep site (Prepopedia) lists EAB as requiring the CCAT for summer interns, analysts and consultants. We found no candidate reports or EAB statement confirming it.

Our estimate, not EAB's cutoff. The highest Criteria suggested floor among the reported roles is 22 (Analyst). Competitive intern and analyst programs draw many strong applicants, so we add 8 to 12 points rather than the 5 to 8 we use for a typical employer.

## Check your score against EAB

The numbers below use our estimate for EAB: a range of 30 to 34 out of 50 with a target of 32. Nothing is saved. If you ask Clever below, it sees your numbers.

Below the estimate

A 24 is about the 49th to 50th percentile of Criteria's published reference groups (our estimate). 8 more correct answers would reach our estimated target of 32.

## Roles at EAB reported to include the CCAT

Criteria floors are from Criteria's sample score report. Our estimates are not published cutoffs.

| Role | Criteria job family and floor | Our estimate | Note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Summer intern | Analyst: 22 | 29 to 33 | Reported. Interns usually work on research or analyst teams, so we map to Analyst and use a competitive-program margin. |
| Analyst or research analyst | Analyst: 22 | 30 to 34 | Reported. Full-time analyst classes compete with the same pool as interns plus recent graduates. |
| Consultant or associate | Business Operations Specialist: 20 | 28 to 32 | Reported. Client-facing roles with a lower Criteria floor, but still a selective program. |

## Where the CCAT sits in EAB's hiring process

1. ### Application in the fall or winter

Summer internship and analyst programs typically recruit months ahead. Exact EAB dates are not reported.
2. ### Assessment link soon after applying

In a typical Criteria flow, you receive an emailed link to an unproctored online test on Criteria's platform, often due within a few days.
3. ### CCAT and possibly a personality questionnaire

50 questions in 15 minutes, no calculator. A personality questionnaire is a common pairing.
4. ### Interviews, sometimes with a case or writing exercise

Research and consulting firms often add a short case or writing task. Not reported for EAB specifically.

Steps are as candidates describe them. Processes change by role and over time.

## About EAB

EAB works with colleges, universities and school districts, providing research, enrollment marketing and student success software.

Because EAB's clients are schools, its analysts and consultants spend much of their time turning research and enrollment data into recommendations a school leader can act on. Expect the interviews to test that; the aptitude screen only decides whether you get to them.

## The summer cycle: why timing matters

Summer internships and analyst classes usually fill in a few waves. If the CCAT comes early in the process, it may be the first thing standing between your application and a conversation. Applying early, and being ready for the test when you apply, keeps you in the first wave.

Do not start preparing when the email arrives. Students often get the link during a busy week and give it whatever time is left. Take a practice test in the week you submit applications, so the invite becomes a short task rather than a scramble.

## What analyst programs are screening for

Research and consulting analysts spend their days reading reports, checking claims against data and writing short conclusions. The CCAT's logic and math items line up with that: deduction questions ask whether a statement follows from the facts, and ratio and table items ask you to reason with numbers quickly.

A competitive program also means the applicant pool is strong. Criteria reports the average test taker answers about 24 correctly, and our estimate for these roles is well above that. That is the honest picture, and it is why consistent accuracy on the easier half of the test matters more than heroics on the hardest items.

- Deduction: answer only from the statements given, never from what you know about the world.
- Ratios: convert to total parts before splitting a quantity.
- Keep a steady pace; do not spend a minute on any single item.

## Question types to drill first

- [**Deduction** True, False or Uncertain items mirror an analyst's job: does the evidence support the claim? Syllogisms with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-syllogisms)
- [**Ratios & proportions** Research work is full of shares and splits, and ratio items reward one simple method. Math questions with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-math-questions)
- [**Odd word out** Fast verbal items that reward precise word sense, useful for writing-heavy roles. Verbal questions with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-verbal-questions)

## Practice questions in the same formats

These are our own practice questions, written in the CCAT's formats. EAB does not publish its test questions, and neither does Criteria. For a full timed run, take the [free CCAT practice test](https://clevercatprep.com/free-ccat-practice-test).

Question 1 Deductive statements Medium

Assume the first two statements are true. Some readers are runners. Some runners are researchers. Conclusion: Some readers are researchers. Is the conclusion True, False, or Uncertain?

- A. True
- B. False
- C. Uncertain

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: C, Uncertain**

The two some-statements can concern different members of the middle group. An overlap between the outer groups is not guaranteed or ruled out. No extra facts about these groups may be assumed.

The fast route

Do not reverse all-statements or invent an overlap that was never given.

Question 2 Ratios & proportions Medium

The ratio of red to blue tiles is 5:8. There are 234 tiles in total. How many are blue?

- A. 234
- B. 145
- C. 18
- D. 144
- E. 90

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: D, 144**

There are 13 parts in total. Each is worth 234 ÷ 13 = 18. Blue tiles: 8 × 18 = 144.

The fast route

Convert the ratio into a total number of parts.

## Tips for the EAB CCAT

- Take a full practice test in the same week you submit summer applications.
- On deduction items, Uncertain is the right answer more often than students expect. If the statements do not settle it, pick Uncertain.
- Aim for accuracy on the first 25 questions before worrying about speed on the last 25.
- If you have two applications open with Criteria tests, prepare once and take both while the practice is fresh.
- Ask the recruiter whether interns and full-time analysts take the same assessment.

## How we estimate

EAB does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.

Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the [CCAT percentile chart](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-percentiles) for the method and [what a good CCAT score is](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-score) for the published job-family floors.

## Questions, answered

**Does EAB really use the CCAT?**

A prep-site list says so for summer interns, analysts and consultants. We found no candidate reports or EAB statement that confirm it. Ask your recruiter which assessment you will take.

**What score do EAB interns need?**

EAB publishes no score. We estimate 29 to 33 out of 50 for summer interns, based on Criteria's Analyst floor of 22 plus a margin for a competitive program.

**Why is the EAB estimate higher than other companies?**

Intern and analyst programs attract many strong applicants, so we add a larger margin above Criteria's floor. It is a judgment, not a published number.

**When will I get the test?**

Timing is not reported for EAB. In typical Criteria flows, the link arrives by email soon after you apply and is due within a few days.

**Is the test the same for interns and full-time analysts?**

The CCAT itself is the same 50-question test. What changes from role to role is the score an employer looks for.
