# CentralSquare's pre-interview CCAT for software developers

By [Avi Flombaum](https://avi.nyc) · Updated October 13, 2026

Software developer candidates report a pre-interview CCAT at CentralSquare Technologies, so the test decides who gets an interview. CentralSquare does not publish a cutoff. Our estimate for developers is about 25 to 28 out of 50, with 26 as a working target.

Some evidence

Software developer candidates on Glassdoor report a pre-interview assessment at CentralSquare Technologies, described as the CCAT.

Criteria's suggested floor for Software Development is 20. We add a typical tech-employer margin of 5 to 8 points. CentralSquare publishes no score; this is our estimate.

## Check your score against CentralSquare Technologies

The numbers below use our estimate for CentralSquare Technologies: a range of 25 to 28 out of 50 with a target of 26. Nothing is saved. If you ask Clever below, it sees your numbers.

Below the estimate

A 24 is about the 49th to 50th percentile of Criteria's published reference groups (our estimate). 2 more correct answers would reach our estimated target of 26.

## Roles at CentralSquare Technologies reported to include the CCAT

Criteria floors are from Criteria's sample score report. Our estimates are not published cutoffs.

| Role | Criteria job family and floor | Our estimate | Note |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Software developer | Software Development: 20 | 25 to 28 | The reported role. The test comes before any interview, so it is the first filter. |
| Senior software developer | Software Development: 20 | 26 to 29 | Not reported separately. Same test; we lean one point higher for seniority. |

## Where the CCAT sits in CentralSquare Technologies's hiring process

1. ### Application

Typical; not described in the reports.
2. ### Pre-interview CCAT

Reported: an online assessment before any interview.
3. ### Technical interview

Typical for developer roles; format not reported.
4. ### Team or manager interview

Typical; not described in the reports.

Steps are as candidates describe them. Processes change by role and over time.

## The public-sector software developer path

CentralSquare Technologies builds software for cities, counties, public safety agencies and other public-sector organizations. Developer work there often means records, dispatch and finance systems where details matter and errors are costly.

The CCAT does not test any of that domain knowledge. It is a general reasoning test given before the interview, so a strong portfolio does not reach a hiring manager until the score clears whatever bar the team uses.

## Detail-matching and deduction: two quick sources of points

Two CCAT question types fit a developer who works on records systems. Exact-match items show five pairs of strings, codes or addresses and ask how many pairs are identical. They are pure attention: compare character by character, and watch for swapped digits and a single changed letter.

Deductive statements give two premises and a conclusion. All bakers are teachers; no teachers are editors; so are any bakers editors? Treat each premise as a rule and follow it once, without bringing in outside assumptions.

- Exact match: scan in chunks of three or four characters, not whole strings.
- Deduction: draw two quick circles in your head and place the groups.
- Both: answer within 20 seconds or guess and move on.

## Why a pre-interview test needs a plan

When the test comes before any conversation, no one can vouch for you if the score falls short. Take a timed practice test as soon as you apply, find the two question types that cost you the most, and drill those before you open the link.

If the link arrives with a deadline, use the time. A few days of targeted drills is a better use of the window than taking the test the same evening.

## Checking your practice score against the estimate

Use the score check on this page with a score from a timed, 15-minute practice test. Untimed scores run high and will make you feel safer than you are.

If you land below 25, look at where the misses came from. Developers often find that number series and deduction are already strong, and that the gap sits in verbal items and tables. Two days of focused drills on those usually moves a score more than another full test does. If you are already at 27 or above, keep one more timed test on the calendar the day before you open the link, so the pace is fresh.

## Question types to drill first

- [**Exact matching** Pure attention to detail; quick points if you compare in chunks. Verbal questions with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-verbal-questions)
- [**Deductive statements** Rule-following logic that suits developers once outside assumptions are dropped. Syllogisms with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-syllogisms)
- [**Number sequences** A common math type that developers can answer quickly with a fixed routine. Number series with worked examples](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-number-series-questions)

## Practice questions in the same formats

These are our own practice questions, written in the CCAT's formats. CentralSquare Technologies does not publish its test questions, and neither does Criteria. For a full timed run, take the [free CCAT practice test](https://clevercatprep.com/free-ccat-practice-test).

Question 1 Exact matching Easier

How many of the five items in the left column are exactly the same as the corresponding item in the right column?

| Cobalt Data Solutions | Cobalt Data Solution |
| --- | --- |
| Hillcrest Animal Shelter | Hillcrest Animal Rescue |
| Parkside Tennis Club | Parkside Tennis Club |
| Drummond & Klein | Drummond & Klein |
| Sapphire Coast Tours | Sapphire Coast Travel |

- A. 0
- B. 1
- C. 2
- D. 3
- E. 4

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: C, 2**

Two pairs match: Parkside Tennis Club and Drummond & Klein. The others differ: "Solutions" vs "Solution", "Shelter" vs "Rescue", and "Tours" vs "Travel".

The fast route

Scan the final word of every item first, then the rest.

Question 2 Deductive statements Easier

Assume the first two statements are true. All bakers are teachers. No teachers are editors. Conclusion: No bakers are editors. Is the conclusion True, False, or Uncertain?

- A. True
- B. False
- C. Uncertain

**Show the answer and the fast route**

**Answer: A, True**

The first group is inside the second, and the second never overlaps the third. The first and third therefore cannot overlap. No extra facts about these groups may be assumed.

The fast route

Do not reverse all-statements or invent an overlap that was never given.

## Tips for the CentralSquare Technologies CCAT

- Take a timed practice test the day you apply, since the CCAT comes before any interview.
- On exact-match items, compare three or four characters at a time and watch for swapped digits.
- In deduction, use only the two statements given, even when the conclusion sounds true from everyday experience.
- Use the full window on the link; drill your two weakest types before you start the test.
- If you also apply for a public-sector role elsewhere, expect different tests; confirm which one each employer uses.

## How we estimate

CentralSquare Technologies does not publish a CCAT score, so the numbers on this page are our estimate. We start from Criteria's published job-family floors for the roles candidates report, then place them against Criteria's two norm groups, where the median raw score is 24. We adjust for how competitive the applicant pool is, and we use an employer's own published baseline whenever one exists.

Percentiles come from a normal model on Criteria's published median and standard deviations, shown as a range across both groups. See the [CCAT percentile chart](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-percentiles) for the method and [what a good CCAT score is](https://clevercatprep.com/ccat-score) for the published job-family floors.

## Questions, answered

**Does CentralSquare Technologies use the CCAT?**

Software developer candidates on Glassdoor report a pre-interview assessment described as the CCAT.

**When is the CentralSquare CCAT?**

Before the first interview, according to developer candidates. That makes it the first filter in the process.

**What score do CentralSquare developers need?**

No cutoff is published. Our estimate is about 25 to 28 out of 50, from Criteria's suggested Software Development floor of 20 plus a typical tech-employer margin.

**Does the test ask about public-sector software?**

No. The CCAT is a general reasoning test with math, verbal, logic and spatial questions and no domain content.

**How long do I have to take it?**

The test itself is 15 minutes. How long the link stays open is set by the employer, so check your invite email.
